LET US REST, cotton embroidery thread on silk organza panel, 2024.
LET US REST is a 15-foot-long embroidery dedicated to the people of Palestine. Made in late 2023 into early 2024, it took over 100 hours to embroider. The image is a resting figure of a young woman wearing watermelon hair clips, and earrings in the shape of a kite with the Palestinian flag. This figure resembles Bisan Owda, the young reporter in Gaza who starts every video with “This is Bisan from Gaza, and I am still alive.” This colossal embroidery was made to bring attention to the war in Gaza and the daily struggle of the people of Palestine. This piece is also inspired by the enduring resilience and hope of the people of Gaza and the West Bank.
